Google error

When staff and students type in any letter it comes up with a send/don't send error report and then shuts down the internet browser. We are on XP Pro SP2 with IE7. I've tried a fresh install of IE7 aswell, but that doesn't seem to work either.

 

Any idea's why this would happen? Only happens intermittently but on differnet PC's in the school.

IE7 is out of support with microsoft now, so maybe now is the time to install IE8.

The event log may be your friend here. May not though. Try looking through the application log just after it happens and see if there are any Internet Explorer related errors. It might tell you if the fault occurred in a dll or exe file. My first guess is corrupt javascript though.

If it is a java script issue seems a bit strange that its so random? Once kicked out the internet will be ok.

Google is tuned to current versions of browsers. When IE6 went out of support, my other half's employer (a major financial services company ) had not updated his laptop. Google was one of the first sites to start misbehaving badly.

 

Fortunately, they did finally move to IE7 and now IE8 and things have been fine ever since.

 

The point I was trying to make in my earlier post is that with an out-of-date, out-of-support browser anything could happen and you could waste a lot of time trying to fix a problem that is most easily fixed by rolling out IE8 through WSUS.

Ideally yes I would roll out IE8 but it creates more work for me because of our county hosted SIMS.

A load of our older machines with IE7 have started this today as well. Windows update crashed it i'm guessing. Will install IE8 tomorrow.

why are you still on SP 2 and not 3 ?

 

Also I presume all plug ins etc are all up to date ( flash, shockwave, java etc )

We are on XP Pro SP2 with IE7.

Upgrading to SP3 + IE8 would be the first thing I would do.

People where I work have SP3 and can use IE 7 etc. I presume its to do with DEP in sp3

Windows XP SP3 and IE8 is what you should be running as others have suggested. I can't say I have come across this problem, although I haven't used IE7 in years.

 

You can run IE7 without add-ons to see whether this is the problem. Navigate to: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

 

I have to say though, Windows 7 and IE9 do run really nicely, even on older hardware. Although the learning curve is a bit tough at times, the results are rewarding!
