I am having a problem with BT Net in that we have move site and had the leased line migrated. They have said they have migrated the ip address in e-mail this is not working. When I phone up they keep going on about changing the router ip address and that the Lan addresses are the same. But this our own router so all address should just hit the router the default gateway has been changed to the new one issued by BT. What do I say to get them to make it work? We do not want to change the ip address as the system is set up for the for a VPN.

Indeed, if I read your post correctly it is as you describe. If BT have offered to migrate the real internet IP addresses along with moving the line, then the router should not need to change. You need to check they did 100% offer to move the IP address.

Yes, Check to make sure they have done this because if so the router should not really need to change. It depends what they have setup for you. You normally have a /31 subnet for the link betwen the router and the fibre (FE 0/0 if Cisco) and then you have a /29 for example for your Public IP Range (FE0/1 if Cisco).

There's nothing wrong with your router setup. BT are rubbish. This sort of nonsense is typical for them. Unfortunately Virgin Media are worse.

Indeed we used to have a saying at an ISP I worked at a long time ago: BT are rubbish*, but everyone else is worse.

Virgin have lost the plot recently. The best recent-ish one I encountered was after the 90 days lead time had passed with no circuit, they finally realised they hadn't even placed an order yet. All of my customers that have anything outstanding with virgin are experiencing issues with ordering and lead-time.

* that wasn't the word used, but I guess I can't post the proper one here!

That great as LGFL 2.0 is going to be Virgin!!!

Think it might be solved now if I give the router a secondary IP on the WAN of my 1st userable it seems to work.
