Converting video files to be used on the web site

I need a little advice on converting video files to be put on the web site for viewing/downloading. I have been handed a DVD that need 14 minutes of footage took from it so it can be put on the web site. I ripped it and converted it to avi then to mp4 for the file size is still too large. Can anyone give me tips or examples of what software to use and how to do it correctly. Even a flash movie would be OK as i cant afford to have a 23mb video file on the web.

I use either Nero, Photoshop Video Elements, or the freeware PSP Video 9

http://www.pspvideo9.com/ - any of these will let you convert various formats including .mov files - windows movie maker will also do the conversion for you I think. I can get a 700 mb Avi down to 70-80 mb for Ipod viewing so 14 mins of footage shouldn't be to bad.

Windows Media Encoder can convert IIRC or (assuming you can get it into a MOV you can use Flash Video Converter that comes with Studio)

Riva FLV Encoder which is free will convert videos to Flash Video format, which you can play using FLV Player.

Super © can convert absolutely everything under the sun into absolutely everything else. Well, I might exagerating a bit - but it does quite a lot (including flash .flv files).

 

It doesn't have the greatest UI - but once you're use to it then it is fine.

Windows Movie Maker. IT's free. it converts to wmv, allows you to choose compression.
