ricky123 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I have had a request to install Activstudio Flipchart Viewer. It's from a teacher who needs to refer to Activstudio work she did in her last school (we don't have any Promethean software here). I have tried to download it from the following URL: Flipchart Viewer Agreement : Software : Promethean Planet And it results in a "Oops! Page Not Found" error. I have reported the error some days ago but have not heard back from Promethean. Where can I download this software from? Thanks.
cmssbrie Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hi, I think this software is actually in the process of being "taken down". Your best bet would probably be to use Inspire Personal edition - which should open all .flp or .flipchart files, and allows "basic" annotation onthe pages. This is available for free from the Promethean Planet site. Hope this helps
synaesthesia Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Bit of a thread resurrection I realise, but is there any replacement for the Flipchart viewer please? Wish to use something to view Promethean's flipcharts in school where we do not have Promethean devices. (We have a few staff that have come from such places and would like to use their resources)
mjk Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I'd like to know this too. Promethean formats seem to be incompatible with just about everything!
synaesthesia Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Everything I can see points to installing ActivInspire - really don't want to do that!
mjk Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Everything I can see points to installing ActivInspire - really don't want to do that! but that requires a license/hardware, and the personal can't be used in school was my understanding.
synaesthesia Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I thought that as well, but their site says it can be. Rather annoying that Promethean's site is so badly kept, all the old links still exist and point to things like the flipchart viewer yet are obviously dead! Plus the whole thing is so outdated and difficult to navigate it wouldn't surprise me if it puts people off buying them. 1
GaRobbie Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 HI Guys, Currently there is no separate Flipchart viewer. If you would like to open or view Flipcharts then you are correct, you will need to Install ActivInspire. You do Not need a license or hardware to use the Personal edition of the software (which is the un-activated version of the software). According to the licensing for the Personal edition it is not supposed to be used on TPH (third party hardware, like a SMART board), though can be used in a school . To use Inspire on TPH you would need the Professional ED of Inspire. You can use the Personal Edition on TPH if you have purchased flipcharts by applying for a teacher consent license on Prometheanplanet.com. An alternative to using Inspire would be to use ClassFlow which is a Web based program that has a Flipchart Import feature and is not hardware specific / does not require special licensing. 1

Does classflow also lock us into the same formats or can we export from it ? The problem we have is a range of technologies; so our default position is to discourage staff from using promethean because of the lock in problem.
synaesthesia Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Saw Classflow mentioned in another thread whilst searching and have recommended the staff involved here take a look at that.
synaesthesia Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Ugh, even worse, it seems that downloading something from Promethean's site gives them leave to start spamming your inbox again after you've unsubscribed. I almost forgot why I didn't like using them in the first place.
