USB Extension

I have a ActiveBoard 378 where if I want to route the USB cable safely I need a cable longer than that supplied. I know I need to use an active USB extension extend beyond USB 5 meters. The question is, will something like CablesToGo 5m USB A Male to A Female Active Extension Cable (81655) - dabs.com work with a Promethean board?

I think you will need to use some sort of USB over ethernet device as the max length of USB in 5 meters

As long as it's active you can go over 5m.

Our advice would be to use the wireless solution, and, if a 300 pro board, run phono cables for the audio.

 

That said, we know of many users who use USB extenders of some form, and the systems work perfectly well. It is difficult for us to support any extender because of the sheer numbers available, and due to the fact that we havent manufactured them.

 

We have tested with one model of CablesToGo CAT 5 extender (model #81620), and that seemed to be ok with the 300 range of boards which were also powered. That said, because it is not our "kit", we can only support our board with the cables that we have supplied.

 

So, officially, we would advise you to use the wireless upgrade kit for the 300 series boards, however, we do know of users who have used USB extension or CAT 5 Extension cables that have worked fine for them.
