Not exactly in the spirit of Freecycle

I've been monitoring our local Freecycle group recently and saw this gem come up:

 

2 x 30foot conifers for logs

 

I have 2 conifers in my garden that need chopping down and removing, they will provide logs to last the whole winter. YOU MUST FELL AND REMOVE YOURSELF

 

Roughly interpreted: I want someone to come and chop down/remove the leylandi that is blocking the sunlight from mine and my neighbours house. For free.

Only matched I feel by offers of free rubble, in one case over a ton, to anyone who wants it!!

I would fell them straight into the persons house/conservatory etc.

I have some free containers. The paint currently in them can be deposited on my ceilings and walls.

Hey don't knock rubble, when you need a base for something its ruddy expensive if you dont have a tonne laying around!

Am sure you would have to be a tree surgeon / have a chain saw license, rope etc etc to do it safely. Am sure they may end up with cowboys doing it, no good if they end up cutting themselves with the chain saw

I took down an old apple tree in our garden and I went onto Freecycle saying there was wood available but it would need cutting into logs. A guy came round and happily spent the morning with his chainsaw. He had a couple of months heating and I had a clear garden. The only people likely to respond to the request are the ones who it suits.

 

I used to get annoyed when it was obvious that it was car-booters who were taking the freecycle stuff but then I thought, many of them are probably out of work and doing their best to make a bob or two. Best of luck to them.

Conifers are actually terrible trees for wood burning stoves. The sap content is really high.

Hmmmm.... i do have 2 conifers in the back of my garden that need coming down too...... wasnt me! but if any body would like to lol.

 

i have seen people after a transit van on freecycle and alot of other bizaree bits too.

Conifers are good, the sap turns into a natural tar when burnt and that can be collected and stored for YEARS, just reheat and mix with powdered charcoal you have a very very strong glue.

If you season them they are good. Problem is most people chop them and burn them that year. Stack them up outside in a bit of shelter and they well be perfect.
