garethEds Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Does a terabyte of illegal downloads constitute art? (Wired UK) As Wired ask in their poll - genius or someone trying to be clever. Waste of time if you ask me. GJE
MK-2 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I aired my views on this sort of "art" before so won't go into that, but if the "artist" has indeed got illegal files on there, surely they are open to prosecution. Or would a picture entitled "man molesting a 5 year old" simply be classified as art despite the content itself being illegal?
difinity Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 If the idea of art is to make you think, then yes it's art IMO. No less art than an unmade bed.
TechMonkey Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 How many bets if someone tries to bust them it is actually empty. Either way I would say it is crud. Maybe if he had done something with the pedestal, or the case I would have to think for a second, but this is someone trying to be a smart ass. What ever your thoughts on graffiti this is no where in the same bracket.
JoeBloggs Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 is it just an empty external harddrive? or has someone plugged it in and checked?! fakeart
Domino Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 anything can be art, dependent on the viewer, so the 'ist it art?' question is redundant However, I think it's a load of old tripe
Oaktech Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 errr, no. to my mind art is something visual, and that is just a hard drive. if they had actually pasted printed images of the contents on the outside of the case. then that would have constituted art in my oppinion.
X-13 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Or would a picture entitled "man molesting a 5 year old" simply be classified as art despite the content itself being illegal? Yes. From a legal standpoint at least. However, only in some countries. Here, I'm not 100% on the legalities. I vaguely remember a few things that may or may not be true. This is based off of a child protection course/meeting from a while back. From a moral standpoint, it wouldn't make it into a gallery. At all. Ever.
LosOjos Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 From a moral standpoint, it wouldn't make it into a gallery. At all. Ever. Did you read the article?
X-13 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Did you read the article? Yes, but that was a direct reply to MK-2 regarding the situation he proposed. [/keeping calm, like a boss]
