jmair Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I've been trying to get the VPN on Win7 to work, so i'll post a question here. I need to be able to VPN into work and have my network at home be 100% on the same network as at work. ip, subnet, gateway etc. .. I've found and tried several VPN portals, but they only grant access to computers, but I need to be able to troubleshoot issues on the network itself. I've been using RDC to solve this problem , but the delay on typing, dragging etc is hassle. Can anyone suggest a free solution to joining my computer at home onto the network at work?
cpjitservices Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Pfsense firewall has OpenVPN built in - just set it up so that when you connect it drops you onto your private IP Subnet once you are dialled in - you'll be able to access anywhere on your network!! This is the setup we have - pfsense sits just after the routers and then goes out to the switch, and when we VPN in we get dropped onto our local IP subnet and can do things like check emails on the internal systems or login to switches etc etc

FN-GM Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I use a web based remote access from Sonicwall. I then RDP into the servers i need.
cpjitservices Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Sonicwall is good and IIRC pfsense is a branch of Sonicwall, pfsense is free also. Here's A setup guide. pfSense OpenVPN Tutorial
tom_newton Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Something OpenVPN based sounds like just the ticket for you.
cpjitservices Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Dead easy to setup - all you'll need is a spare machine, or even do it in a VM.
