MK-2 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Right, I want to slowly start rebuilding my PC as it was built about 5 years ago but could do with a refresh. It's currently got 4gb OCZ memory, a silent gfx card (think its 512mb radeon), gigabyte p35 mobo and i think (its been that long since i looked) dual core 2.2ghz intel. ideally i'd like to get a new gfx card first, and it doesn't have to be silent now, budget will be about £200 max so something that can play games on that budget? i'd heard some of the mid range amd cards really had a lot of power for the price. just looking for opinions on a £200max gfx card to go for
featured_spectre Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Xbox slim with 250gb hdd and battlefield 3 = better way to spend the money

featured_spectre Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 haha, antyihg beyond the GTX 250 is fine
jamesfed Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Can pickup a AMD 6950 for about £200 now You need two PCI card slots spare and it'll take 2x graphics card power cables but it is one beast that just dosn't stop. Haven't seen its clock speed usage go over 60% when playing Crysis 2 at 1080p.

Haven't seen its clock speed usage go over 60% when playing Crysis 2 at 1080p. i was just looking as OcUK have two 6950 brands on sale at 199.99 at the mo: OcUK ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card its been that long since i opened my case but im pretty sure i have the space spare. i know my old card took some space as it was fanless so the heatsink was bigger on it. and my cpu cooler was the old scythe ninja that looked about 4 ft tall in the case
jamesfed Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Dabs Link - this is where I got mine - £199.99 at the moment (although I think I paied about £230 when it first came out). There is a slightly cheaper version as well which comes with only 1GB of RAM instead of the full 2GB. Its a very long card as well - could probably do with a quick measure first. 1
MK-2 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 thanks for the info oh and thanks @nephilim .........................
bushby Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 look at your local maplins got my nvidea GTX 460 for 200 about 2months ago from them was 500 this time last year
Guest Guest Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Another vote for the 6950. Bonus aswell is once it starts to get a bit old you can flash the bios with that of the 6970 and unleash more power - dual bios too so little chance of bricking it. All of my games (albeit no FPSs) have been run at 1920x1200 at very high settings and I don't think the gfx card fan has even spun up yet!
MK-2 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 as a follow up to this topic, what would be the smallest case this would fit in? i also need a new case, as my old one (although absolutely fantastic antec p180) is aging now and external ports are broken etc. i've looked at the fractal design arc midi (Fractal Design Arc Series Computer Cases) but not sure if the gfx card would fit in there? i also need to account for in the future if i replace cpu would a new cpu fan fit in there (as im guessing my scythe ninja wouldn't)
Butters Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I managed to get a Nvidia 560ti for around £150. Thrown every game I can think of at it at the highest resolution and full settings and it just stares and me and says 'try harder to make me work'.

The GTX 590 looks pretty good although a lot of £££££ Link to the card I however got mine from AVForums in the classifieds but they do stock 560's for around the same price now. Very good bang for buck cards similar to the older GTX260 series. 1
