Acceptable Use Policy legalities

Just started at a new company and their acceptable use policy 'acceptance' screen appears after you press ctrl+alt+del and once you agree you are confronted by the username and password prompt. Now my issue is this. Someone can log on to the network WITHOUT prior agreement to the policy as someone could have booted up the PC accepted the policy and then decided not to log on. The next user comes along and does not have top agree to the policy. My arguement is that the acceptance of the policy sghould come in once the user has logged on. Failure would log them off. The current setup ASSUMES the logged on user has accepted the policy.

Totally agree, that's what we do here, the user has to log in before they get the AUP agreement if they choose not to accept they are then logged out.

 

Staff and students are in total agreement and are very happy about it being like this.

Just out of interest do you make them accept everytime they login or just once?

Common practice in many companies and in the public sector is for the agreement to the AUP to appear periodically, backed up by user education and reinforcement. This is often a scripted form and can form part of the user's contract of employment. The legalities around using it with children are whether a child can legally be bound by it, as it is the parent / guardian who has to sign to agree to anything legal.
