RIM Blackberry Server

Hi,

 

Anybody had any luck implementing this on an exchange server, I installed it all yesterday nut it won't log into the web console or the web-desktop - I've had a look round Google and all seem to suggest different things which don't work ??

Joys of BES Install It either goes all smooth or damn you have a pain in the backside on your job list!

 

- Can you actually see the pages or do you get page cannot be displayed?

- Did all the services start okay without any problems?

 

Ever friggin time I have found an issue with BES I have ended up re-installing the damn thing. What OS is the box? Server 2003/2008? and what version of Exchange are you running mate.

It's running on my main Exchange box - Exchange 2010 SP1 and I believe it's the latest version of BES which is version 5, I can get to the login screens on /webconsole/login and webdesktop/login but if I type User Name & passwords and the Domain name it just says user not found check user names, passwords and domain. It's all setup correctly all the services have started and I have the BESAdmin user created but even that won't login, I've been all through the manual that is on Blackberry's site and followed it to the letter but still no joy.

 

Really not a nice program to work with!!!

Can you censor and then link (or PM me) your BAS-AS and BAS-NCC log files please? Also..never ever ever ever (ad nauseum) install BES on an Exchange server...But since you've done it, let's get this fixed. I'm familiar with this error, and the BAS-AS logs will tell more.

 

Do you have a local authentication account (non-AD) available to log into BAS with??

Drop the box down under password and change it from Active Directory to one of the others, cannot remember it off the top of my head and login with the admin details. That is what we used to have to do when we had our BES.

I have had a look through the settings this morning - there is a BES Configuration program so I've been into that and there is a tab which is Active Directory options, however my admin username and domain is there and I have entered my password and all seems well at that point except my password disappears - and nothing changes - still can't login to the web console/dekstop. I don't have any local user accounts on the server to login with it's all AD logins - I had previously wondered whether it was a bad idea installing the BES on the Exchange server but it looked like I had no option.

 

Any help greatly appreciated.

Is there anything log in the event viewer?

No nothing, I've looked in my logs in the BES folder on the hard drive but there isnt really anything useful in there not about logins failing or anything anyway, there are supposed to be some logs called BES-AD etc etc but I cannot locate these at all even doing a system search the logs all start with the date and then a load of jargon.

Do you have a Server 2003 Box anywhere on your network? I know some people have a few issues with Server 2008 R2 / Exchange 2010.

 

If you cannot login with the BES Admin you specified on the following screen:

Then there is a serious problem, RIM Support will make you Uninstall Software, Remove Traces in Reg and then Re-Install.

Yeah I have got the details I have tried logging in with that account and it doesn't work tried it through AD and the Blackberry Admin Service, the services are also started by BESAdmin.

If it is not letting you login at all via the portals and you are 110% sure about the BES Local Login Account then you will have to reinstall it. I have seen this before, If you have a Server2003 box i recommend it goes on that it runs much better.

You do get 1 free support call, but you don't really want to waste it on this because I have seen it happen before and they will honestly just tell you to re-install the software.

 

I don't know about him forgetting the password, I have honestly seen this happen a few times even when people have used simple straight forward passwords. (it just has not installed correctly.)

@ C Jackson - This is the full blown product you're using right not BES express?

I had the same thing happen on an SBS2011 Box, (technically 20082 and Exchange2010). Installed it on Server 2003 pointed it to Exchange 2010 (SBS2011) works fine!

ermm it's the trial so yes it is the express - I've had to get the trial and get it working as people are desperate for it!! I am running Server 2008 and don't have any licenses for Server 2003, I have already re-installed it on my 2008 Enterprise box about 3 times now - what an awful piece of software! - I have used the one free complementary help but they haven't been much help when they have replied, they replied saying that my BES couldn't talk to the AD Server, but it can it resolves the mailbox names when I change it on the Blackberry Server options.

 

So is the best bet to get a server 2003 box and point it to Exchange ??
