Bulk creating users with AUM. What default file permissions for students?

I am changing the way we add our new entries this year. I have decided to use Active User Manager to add them. This is a pretty painless task BUT I need to check some file permissions settings with my fellow edugeekers.

I the past we gave full access to all files and controlled access with shares.

Now we are switching it around the other way.

I'm not sure what I should give students on their own home area now?

Modify

Read & Execute

List Folder contents

Read

Write

I assume no to the modify and yes to everything else?

Just checking before I add the whole year and do it wrong!

Thanks

Ours are set up with the root of the home folders shared with Everyone, Full Control. Then you can make sure the inheritance is off on the ntfs permissions for that folder only then set the permissions to SYSTEM (Full control), Administrators (Full Control) . When you add users the home folder path should then give full ntfs control to the user whose folder it is and prevents anyone else from viewing it apart from Administrators. We've gone one stage further and allowed staff, read only access to the student shares to enable them to check that work is being done / retrieve tasks from the students.
