They look like fish eggs

It may well be alive but as it's missing half it's "head" then I'm making a fair assumptions.

Lop a chuck's head off and it'll run around happily for a good while.

A (not long) dead man will often twitch if you poke him.

A squid will undoubtably get a bit wiggly if you start poking it/marinading it a few minutes after it's had it's head exposed to the elements.
