Hi guys,

I might be asking something completely stupid here but here goes anyway...

Is there a way of users accessing files remotely (VPN) without the school having a public IP address???

We have an internet connection through the LA. If I use something like Teamviewer I can set up a VPN with that. So i guess it is possible but what software can I use thats a bit more 'substantial'.

Thanks

James

Your LEA/Broadband provider will be able to provide you with a public IP/required DNS setup so I'd say why try to make something complicated when it can be so simple!

If your LEA is one of those that 'batterns down the hatches' on any kind of public IP then give them a kick from your SMT.

my predecessor tried once and I think they tried to charge a stupid amount of money to open ports and forward to our school.

To be honest, it would only be for SLT and me probably. about 6 people

Give it another go and give them a kick for me ;)

Our LEA has said no more than 4 public IP v4 addys until they can move to IP v6 and we use one for our VPN and the other for HAP+ both were setup for free with a 5 day SLA.

If you get it setup right then the VPN would be of massive use to all of your staff - within one day we had 42 out of 90 staff signed up and using it and one week later that was up to 60.

You can also use a SSTP VPN, which means you can have HAP+ and the VPN on the same IP, that's what I do, using Routing and Remote Access in 2008 R2

Use a SSTP VPN here to :) Got it seprated out from HAP+ for a few reasons but they both work a treat.
