Dos_Box Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 The sandwhich van which does the rounds between the various office blocks here on the docks in Preston has just been. Usually I catch him before midday but I way eyes down working and didn't hear his van jingle (like an ice cream van for grown-ups), so I caught him on his last stop of the day. As he sometimes does when he's heading home and has surplus stock, he offered me his last meat pie for free (as a loyal customer etc.), but only after I'd brought a prawn salad roll. Now I've eaten both and feel guilty Should I feel bad, or should I just keep the little voice in my head which keeps repeating 'Free meat pie...Yippee!', happy and live with it?
Andrew_C Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Free food (or stolen from someone else's plate) doesn't count. No guilt or calories attached.
jinnantonnixx Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 No such thing as a free pie. The price you pay is eternal guilt. The only way out of this is to buy two pies next time. I call this a win-win.
AJRussell Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 don't feel guilty about free food. im on a diet and my lunch consisted of: 1 boiled egg, chunck of cheese and 2 slices of corned beef. im soooooooooo hungry
jinnantonnixx Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Sorry, but a diet in which you're hungry is doomed to fail. See the 'wight loss' thread elsewhere.
joe90bass Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Free food is just that - free of cost, free of guilt and free of calories
creese Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Sorry, but a diet in which you're hungry is doomed to fail. See the 'wight loss' thread elsewhere. I have to agree there. I've been on phase 2 of as diet for 3 weeks. I have a job to eat all my 1500 calories now I am eating the right stuff. Eggs (with yolk) okay but a fair bit of fat Corned Beef, I wouldn't entertain it. Too much fat Cheese... in moderation. Hard cheese almost entirely fat. Try mushrooms 100g is 18 calories. As opposed to C Beef at 215. There are many other foods out there that fill you up for few calories.
teejay Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Prawn salad roll:eek: Jeez, you'll have had to have drunk at least 4 cans of Boddingtons with your free pie to man back up after that experience!
DAZZD88 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 As many have said, free food contains no calories. It's like when you get a biscuit tin, if you pick the broken biscuits then that's okay when you're on a diet as the calories have all fallen out.
joe90bass Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 It's like when you get a biscuit tin, if you pick the broken biscuits then that's okay when you're on a diet as the calories have all fallen out. Wow, didn't know that - cheers!
teejay Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. There is, it's called raiding the staffroom fridge
DAZZD88 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Wow, didn't know that - cheers! I learned that from the female members of our IT staff, they are often trying new diets and that.
joe90bass Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 There is, it's called raiding the staffroom fridge Or being on good terms with the cooks 1
Guest TheLibrarian Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 It's like when you get a biscuit tin, if you pick the broken biscuits then that's okay when you're on a diet as the calories have all fallen out. I'm off to give the biscuit tin a darned good shake.
Guest TheLibrarian Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Sometimes you just have to have an off day on a diet - or at least I find I have to anyway. When offered biscuits etc. while on my diet I've found that thinking to myself "Do I really want to have to use those calories?" helps; mainly it helps because I'm lazy through and through so the thought of having to use the extra calories is enough to stop me partaking of the evil snacks.

featured_spectre Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 If HE offered it too you as a loyal customer, accept it as a gesture of good will, especially if you have been using him for a while Just next time if you buy something and it comes to say £1.50 and you only have a £2 coin, tell him to keep the change as a gesture of your good will.
teejay Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 its a bit of a crummy diet though That's just taking the biscuit now.
jinnantonnixx Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 That's just taking the biscuit now. That's a bit rich, Tee. 1
X-13 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 No such thing as a free pie. The price you pay is eternal guilt. The only way out of this is to buy two pies next time. I call this a win-win. For this to work, you'd have to pay for two, but only take one. That's a bit rich, Tee. Perfect setup, flawless execution. 'Grats, 100 internets to you.
north-ict Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 There is, it's called raiding the staffroom fridge Lol funny you should say that i went into the staff room kitchen to get a glass of water and saw a note note on the cupboard saying 'Whoever is stealing the food from this cupboard stop stealing it!' Made me chuckle
