Cleaning Profiles

Hi,

 

I currently use RM CC3/CC4 and use the "Clean Profile" feature alot when we get profile corruption etc

 

I wanted to know how this can be done on a vanilla server 2003 network.

 

The way i understand how CC3 cleans the profile is that it copies the profile files from a default user and overwrites the files for the chosen user. Hence all their settings are set back to the default way. I have had some colleagues in the past who create a new user profile and copy all the documents etc.

 

If anyone knows how it works and if there are any scripts out there already for this I would greatly appreciate it.

Glad to know someone out there who has the same problem. I don't really like CC3/CC4 as i think it makes us dumb as techies I do however love the clear profile feature which is so handy. I'm trying to understand how this feature works so that I can apply it to a vanilla windows environment. Same as the original poster.. would love to know anyone who has any idea's.

on a vanilla 2003 network we used to just delete the user profile directory completely not only the files inside but the whole folder - when they log back on a clean station they will get a new profile.

These are roaming profiles.. and more often then not they will not be logging on to a clean station. There is a delprof.exe that can be pushed out via gpo.. to clean the station.. but the RM way is so much better and so not messy. just would be really nice to know, what actually happens behind the scenes when the clean profile option is selected on the RM MMC

OK, this is from someone at RM.

 

Just spoken to ***** in 3rd line and here’s what basically happens: There is a Default User profile stored on the RM server, when you click ‘reset profile’ the current users profile content is deleted and the content from that default profile is copied in.

Now to create a script that does that.. Will try to do that. If anyone already has something similar.. would really appreciate it.

@theforce thank you for clearing that up, I too am looking for a script to use at a school I cover every 2 weeks. I might try and create something myself, will post it up if I am successful

I do the following

 

Mandatory profiles

Hive cleanup service

 

And a Vbscript that removes all accounts/profiles that begin with 07 08 09 10 11 ( leaves teachers accounts alone as there local) at startup.

 

Works perfect . I never ever have any profile problems !

Any chance you can post the script? we have a virus on a vanilla network and I think we will need to clean all the profiles, hopefully a script will make that alot easier and faster

Inside is a BAT ( put this in the policy share with the script ) I use this as a Startup script , but you can probally do a shutdown script if you wish .

 

 

cscript.exe \\gcsserver\media\profiles\deleteprofiles.vbs /I 07*,08*,09*,10*

 

This removes all profiles/usernames that beings with 07 08 09 10
