cpjitservices Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Hi folks, I have just built the new exchange server at work, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010 SP1. We don't have logons really the only ones we have is for Outlook. However we are starting to grow and the boss has asked if we can all have a way of logging into the PC's with centralized management. This is obviously the job of AD, Now I've never done this before and was just wondering where to start. He's specified that when logged into his machine he'd also like the same logon to get into his outlook and all the samba shares, for now I'm concentrating on getting him onto the machines with the same logon as outlook. I dont want to run AD straight from the exchange server so I have built another Server and will Install AD but how do I set both servers so that everyone can use the same login for the PC's and Outlook - Bearing in mind Outlook is on a different server on a different domain ? I've built AD loads of times but never really had to get it working with the same login for exchange - just something I've never had to do. Thanks !

featured_spectre Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 To get it done right, you input the email details into the email field in the user population section, then set up as applicable. Exchange should take the details no problem then :-) 1

Firefox Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 As long as you have a trust between the 2 domains in question it shouldn't be a problem, I must admit to not using Exchange 2010 as yet, but I know it's easily done in previous incarnations 1
cpjitservices Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 OK I've been reading and apparently I'll have to run ADPREP on my exchange server and then go onto my new server and run "DCPROMO", then add the server into an existing domain ??? Can anyone confirm ? Thanks
Firefox Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 What Operating system do the current DC's have in your domain? if you wish to install a 2008/2008 R2 DC into an existing domain then yes you will need to run adprep with potentially the forestprep command and most definately the domainprep command. This should not need to be ran on exchange. Once this is complete then you'd need to run a dcpromo from the new 2008 server to make it a domain controller. A quick question, how come your exchange is in a different domain? 1

The Exchange is currently our DC which is Server 2008 R2. Hi 1. Still not too sure what you mean. If you have Exch deployed, you already have an AD. So any user in the forest can use Outlook and logon usind the AD credentials (SSO). 2. cpjitservices Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Hey, it went well once I had both servers talking to each other single sign on works perfect, the only problem I have come across is that I have not yet figure out how to get Outlook to be setup once a user logs in on any machine. I have documented everything I did and every step I took, and will one day upload the documents online on A blog. Thanks
