School Development Bids! (MONEY MONEY MONEY)

I've been sent an email asking my to submit for Development Bids. These are to benefit teaching and learning. These items must be a one of cost.

 

Ideas so far:

 

30 ipads for the LRC (ebooks and wot not)

Impero or similar (to aid classroom T&L)

I-Table (It'd look cool and I want to play with MS Surface)

IP Birdbox (Because analog is crud)

IP Weather Vein (Could be cool, log in to see if I want to ride my bike to work)

Roving IP Robot (Again could be cool)

Shouldn't it be that the T&L needs are identified and you look at which one fits best?

 

It might be an idea to and speak to a friendly department and see if they have anything they are looking at and you could pool your money. It then means you have people who are going to make good use of it too.

65" Multitouch TVs!

 

The development cashola I believe is 1.7Mil but alot has been earmarked already. I was looking for left field items that'd never normally even try to procure.

 

shame about Impero what about Lanschool, or any other classroom management software available with a perpetual license.

That isn't the case Impero is one off cost and then support is yearly and depending on money available could get 2/3 years support as part of initial deal.

 

Once got software you own it and you only need support for technical support, remote training or updates to the software (get years support as standard etc).

You could order a 3 or 5 year deal including support thus it would be a one off cost for the lifecycle of the product.

Oh no ... the other things have a a variety of great T&L benefits too.

 

Personal preference would be for the weather station. It gives the school a steady stock of data that is non-personal for working on in spreadsheets, databases, etc. It also give meaningful data for use by Geography and Biology, even helping to work on cross-department collaboration. If you tie it in with resources and lessons from The Met Office it works even better still.

Well lets face it a packet of Peanuts has great T&L benefits if used in the correct manner by an excellent teacher. That does not mean we should all go out and spend thousands of pounds on Peanuts. IMHO it's the teacher that is able to extract great T&L benefits from almost any item of equipment. The equipment itself does not really matter.

 

Your weather station example is a great example of possible cross curricular T&L, BUT you could save yourself £10k (or whatever) by not bothering buying a weather station and simply download some weather station data from Google and use it in the same manner. Let someone else spend (waste?) the money on the station.
