Asus Transformer with the keyboard dock, no question. The keyboard doubles the battery life, adds USB host capabilities and is really nice to type on.

I'll be getting one when I win the Euro lotto this Friday.

We are also investigating funding for a bank of 32 iPAD's for use in a teaching environment - other schools have had good success with this, and this is something we wish to consider more.

We are also looking into IPads or similar with a view to promote good teaching and learning collaboration between the staff and students, looking also at leasing from Apple 32 IPads for use within the school across the curriculum subjects.

tbh if he only wanted email and browsing then id say a tablet is the way to go (and i would say it has to be the HTC or the ipad!) but i just cant recomend them for word processing, it really does sound like he would be better with a good quality laptop. We have given SMT some ASUS ones (K50 i think...) and they are great, they do not overheat (in fact they dont heat up at all, not even the battery!) and the battery life on them is fantastic! not to mention that by going down the ipad route they wouldnt be able to remote into school (if thats something you have or would like)!
