Two we have looked at haven't been much cop - the toshiba satelite pro C660-1LR and the novatech Nspire Any leads will be gratefully taken on board. Thanks in advance.

bossman Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 @andyturpie: Most of the new laptops today will not support running XP as they are compliant with Windows 7 drivers but if you look around for slightly older laptops in the Toshiba range you will find that they build on quite nicely. Other than that I think that you will be struggling to find one that will build straight out of the box without having to inject the drivers into the build. Good luck
computers_r_the_enemy Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I would like to keep my hob nobs please. with regards to finding Laptops that will build onto CC3, i have had a hell of a time with this. why can't all laptop makers just stick to using Intel NICS they are the best. Toshiba would have been my suggestion to as they do build without hassles, other that that you will have to clean install xp install all drivers and then smart client them onto the server. 1
synaesthesia Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Failing that, buy anything with XP drivers available and smartclient. Make a sysprepped image, a CD with the drivers (or even a slipstreamed image with ALL the drives you need) and you'll save a good deal of time. Do the image when you;'ve done the first part of the smartclient process so it just goes straight to the smartclient config prompt when you've put the image back on machines. You will have to make compromises now with new hardware and old operating systems. 1
andyturpie Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 cheers fellas @bossman - thanks - the Tosh gave us a hell of a problem NDIS driver was fine. The problem came when it drops the NDIS and grabs the XP driver at its attempt to join the domain. I had pointed the build manager to the correct .inf file but still wouldn't work (but manually installing the driver from inside windows works with the same .inf!) Smart clienting would be nice (each one we would need to image as well) at 160+ laptops, that's a whooooole load of work! We do invisage the migration to CC4 or another at sometime which would take this headache away, but we have got to a point where the laptops must come first! AJT

themanfromict Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Lenovo still provide WinXP drivers for their new laptops. Currently installing them on 20 new SL510's. Assum CC3 will then install on that? 1

Will try later @themanfromict - thanks always open to suggestions just incase we hit a brickwall. UPDATE - Toshiba now have in place a virtual CC3 network for testing, good that they are on the case as well!
