Ever wondered how you would deploy out a class set of iPads or iPod Touch's. Soon the UK will be able to comply with iTunes terms and conditions without gifting apps to mutiple iTunes accounts. A trial is currently being run in the US. Look at both of the links below.

The App Store Volume Purchase Program allows educational institutions to purchase iOS apps in volume and distribute the apps to their users.

 

Program Benefits

With the App Store Volume Purchase Program, your educational institution can buy Volume Vouchers using a purchase order, credit card, or PCard, then use the vouchers to purchase iOS apps in volume and distribute them to multiple devices.* If your institution is tax exempt, you will not be charged sales tax when you purchase apps. The program also allows app developers to offer special pricing for purchases of 20 apps or more.

That is interesting. I wonder if they'll extend that to this country and if it'll get extended to the Mac App Store as well? Lion is just around the corner and having to buy it by the app store appears to be compulsary. Doing that for eighty machines will be a pain in the arse!

It will be available in the UK but not sure when as I spoke to a UK Apple education representative and also available for businesses. It should be available for the Mac as its the iTunes account they are changing so vendors can offer discounts on software if your purchasing more than 20 copies. So you might have to hold up for a bit on the update

Sounds like another whole to put money, with people buying apps that turn out to be useless.

That possibly sorts out the physical act of installing the OS. It doesn't sort out the licensing issues. A Mac App Store account may cover all of your own computers in your home, I'm willing to bet it wouldn't cover the 80 odd Macs we have here.
