Other options that don't breach the EULA would be to downgrade the TCP.sys file to SP1 (not tested but I don't see why it wouldn't work) or bring the entire OS to SP1. My personnal opinion on the matter is that Microsoft put such a limitation in one of their servicepacks to slow down virus outbreaks for home users and they should have made an option to modify it. It's true that not all machines ever require more than 10 TCP connections but sometimes, like with iTALC in this case, having more than 10 connections is a must.
jhugh Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I have recently completed an install of iTALC on XP pro machines. 1 client and 1 master...just to test it out. I set up an admin AND a teacher. When I try to access the client with the teacher there are no issues. When I try to access the client with the admin I can not connect. I have double and triple checked my authentication keys. I have recreated authentication keys and still can not make this issue go away. The error the client sees in a balloon is : Somebody (my ip address) tried to access this computer but could not authenticate itself successfully! Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong? Your help is greatly appreciated!

gwendes Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Having another go at setting up this software and have got much further than the last time - I think on account of the fact that the software has improved. Now stuck at the stage , with a test setup of just one teacher computer and one student computer, that the teacher software runs and I can add both computers to the 'classroom'. Only the teacher computer is connectable, the student machine says host unavailable and keeps flashing up a baloon that says: 'Somebody [teacher IP address] tried to access this computer but could not authenticate itself successfully' Can anyone help?

SurfingBob Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 First thing you should do is check the error logs in the windows directory. There isn't much advice I can give based on the information of the error you provided. Check the italc_client.log file within the clients that aren't working.
harmless Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 hi im struggling with getting this off the ground.. started a new job a at high school and ive stumbled across this and fort it would be good to have instead of just vnc.. i managed to get it so that teachers can control and view machines but i need to function of the admins being able to contorl teachers and i cant get the keys bit working properly.. any suggestions? harmless

Something you could try is to copy the admin key to the teachers. I haven't tried it myself but I'm pretty sure that would work. You could always simply create a seperate globalconfig for admins only which I'm sure would work.

If you're running 1.0.3 or 1.0.4 I would suggest downgrading to 1.0.2 for the time being. The masters can stay at 1.0.4 without any problems.

If you're ever interested in giving it another go let me know and I'm sure we could get it running correctly. ITalc runs great but there are definitely alot of obstacles to overcome before that can happen.

I have a step by step method that makes installation of entire labs quite easy and functionnal.

I do however get an error message on startup saying that another instance of VNC is running. Possible to make this error not pop up? I don't know if its possible to run two instances of vnc on one box.

brubakes Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 There were some posts on the UltraVNC forums about using a -multi to disable the error message. However, from what I have been reading that switch cannot be used when running VNC as a service.
