Sadly those machine will simply not be powerful enough to manage labs of over 15 machines. Applying the patch only fixes connection lag.

Sadly the sorting function of iTalc is kind of wonky but there are work arounds. Your best bet is to take one master and sort it the way you want it and align them. After you are done sorting and setting the configurations you want for a base template exit the program and copy the file C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\iTALC\personalconfig.xml on a share or something. Now everytime you install a master you will want to copy that file into the machine. You can also copy it into defaultuser incase you have multiple teachers logging into the same machine. Also for the slowness have you tried patching the teacher stations with the TCP fix from http://www.lvllord.de/? The only other thing I can think of that would cause slowness is the specs of the teacher machine, you have to have a pretty decent machine with atleast 512mb of ram and pentium 2.8GHz or more depending on the number of workstations in a lab, the bigger the better pretty much.

I'm not sure if you have noticed already but when you are connected to a computer in full screen there is a toolbar with options that drops down when you navigate your mouse on the top most part of your screen. In later versions of iTalc you can also change the remote connection to windowed mode from that drop down toolbar so it isn't locked in full screen.

Alrighty, if you do that I'll fix it up and hopefully it'll help some people out. I also don't have a guide for installing it on linux clients so maybe someone will provide that eventually.

I can post the step by step guide that I hand out to fellow coworkers in the ITalc thread. It's a bit long. Edit: actually I just noticed I had already posted a basic guide on the first page of that thread. I could simply update that instead since alot of it still applies.

ITalc can do this task pretty easily, I let my teachers take care of it since it's as simple as opening the program, clicking connect and typing in the login details. Plus if your labs support wake on lan you can turn everything on with iTalc aswell. http://italc.sourceforge.net/ Be advised though that deploying it is not straight forward and if you want to figure it out yourself be prepared for alot of time investment. I would strongly suggest not using windows shares for the keys. I only got that method to work correctly with samba shares so if you have a linux box available use that instead. ITalc itself as a service cannot establish a connection to a secure share on a Windows server and if it actually is possible I have never found the solution and moved on. The only time I use a window share for iTalc is for the globalconfig.xml file. If you want it to work correctly copy the public admin key locally instead of on the share and change the registry key accordingly or if you absolutely must use a share put it on a samba on a linux box. Test it with one machine first with the admin keys locally on it and it will work.

Ok in that case if ever you want to try it pm me and I'll give you a hand, I'm even willing to go as far as call you on a landline if it's necessary. I have a step by step method that makes installation of entire labs quite easy and functionnal.

That error is caused by the master not having the correct public and private key to be able to authenticate the connection. I am figuring that since you only metionned the demo mode iTalc itself is working correctly. You might need to provide more details of what kind of setup you are using. Example, are you using identical teacher public and private keys everywhere? Did you add an admin key or other additional keys to the setup? Here's a random tip for demo mode aswell, if the master is on a wireless connection it would be aviseable to use ethernet instead and make sure to configure it properly in the iTalc settings. Wireless with demo mode is simply not a good idea.

That's too bad. If you're ever interested in giving it another go let me know and I'm sure we could get it running correctly. ITalc runs great but there are definitely alot of obstacles to overcome before that can happen.

What version of iTalc are you running on the computers? If you're running 1.0.3 or 1.0.4 I would suggest downgrading to 1.0.2 for the time being. The masters can stay at 1.0.4 without any problems.

The master needs alot of CPU power to handle a classroom. I'm using a T2500 2.00 GHZ laptop and 32 computers uses about 35% CPU. Nothing much can be done about it.

In our schools we use Chancery Winschool and we also can only export limited information into a csv file similar to you. What I do to prepare the xls for AD import is to make a new excell sheet, import the csv into the second page of this xls. On the first page where you will store your AD formatted sheet I make functions so that I can retrieve information off the second page. This example is in french but it might help you anyways, you'd have to find the english version of concatener. Say if you have your first and last name in collumn A and B in page 2 this would do what you're aiming for. =CONCATENER(Feuil2!B1;" CN = ";Feuil2!A1;" ";Feuil2!B1) (edited since I forgot you were doing multiple columns. This would cover sAMAccountName) The end result would be exactly what you typed. This function would complete the format you're looking for and you can simply drag it down for the rest of your lines. This is the method I use and it doesn't take all that long once you have a sheet ready.

Something you could try is to copy the admin key to the teachers. I haven't tried it myself but I'm pretty sure that would work. You could always simply create a seperate globalconfig for admins only which I'm sure would work.

The page is most likely still cached on your computer. You'd have to delete your temporary internet files for it to not be visible anymore I would think. I also tried deleting a html and I come to the same result.
