Checkboxes, Indesign CS3 and Adobe Acrobat 8

I'm trying to create a form in InDesign and I'm coming unstuck with checkboxes.

 

I have, as an example, a bunch of squares all inline with text after them, and then when I import into Acrobat and run the form field recognition stuff it doesn't convert them.

 

If I use ellipses (ie. just click on the box and go via Object -> Convert shape -> Ellipse), it recognises them as radio buttons just fine.

 

What should I be doing to get checkboxes to work and be recognised. I've tried text before, text after, in a table, not in a table etc...

 

I really don't want to have to add them by hand in Acrobat as the form is 14 pages long and if it changes, I'd have to go through and fix them all.

Nope, no luck. I am specifically after getting checkboxes to be recognised by Acrobat as form fields for electronic data entry.

New day, new bump...

 

I seem to now have some checkboxes working - however, it is recognising circles as checkboxes (but not all circles!). So, on one page I have about 8 round checkboxes, and a couple of radio buttons. They're copy/pastes of each other so why is it recognising some as checkboxes and some as radio buttons?

Have you tried using different/varying stroke widths on your checkbox squares?

I've gone a different route in the end. I've done it manually, and whenever I want to update the form, I'll simply use the 'Replace Pages' function in Acrobat, which replaces the page layer, and leaves the form layer in place.
