Stop MAC's Browsing entire network need help

Does anyone know how to stop macs browsing the entire network

 

i have removed the network icon out of finder and sidebar plists but when i goto say for example photoshop

 

i goto file then open

the mac displays an icon named the same as the mac looks like a little computer

if i click on that the network icon appears again

and i can browse every machine on the network.

 

security is in place but i dont like the fact that they can see everything.

 

can anything be done about this

Is it something to do with the file-sharing:

 

finder's preferences go to the sidebar tab and uncheck "bonjour computers". to prevent computers from being seen, under the "sharing" tab in system preferences go to sharing and make sure the file sharing tab is unchecked

i have all those set as required but when using an app the network icon re appears

You can't lock Macs down to the same extent that you would a PC. More often than not, yes, you'll see the entire network, but users still need appropriate permissions to access the resources, so as long as permissions on your shares etc are all sound then job done.

this is the conclusion i was coming up with.

 

on the plus side i have found one security issue i need to sort

 

i just dont like the kids browsing round the network.

 

it just takes one stupid share permission to let hell break loose

perhaps by placing the macs in a seperate vlan will do the trick.

might check out these nast 3com switches we have
