Had Avira a few years back, it was good! except every time it did an update you got an annoying pop up box asking to upgrade to pro or it would advertise something - not a problem just really annoying!!!!!

You can in XP disable this by tweaking the options of the .exe that pop's up but you shouldn't have to - but it was a good program, even though it was for home use it did the job.

Avast through and through now though...

It found most stuff to be honest (viruses and Malware), it didn't use a lot of resources. I just didn't like the UI and that nag screen was really annoying. I moved away from it because I say Avast's new system - it's far better and has a lot more to offer for free.

I probably would use Avira if I wasn't using Avast, and would definitely use it over AVG anyday!!

Thanks, really helpful. Is the nag screen user-visible, or just on the server? To be honest, most people just click 'close' on any messages which appear anyway - even ones they should read - so a nag screen isn't the world's biggest problem!
