Storage Space

We have very little storage space here at springwood, which is a total pain in the arse, especially when you have 100 CRTs to dispose of, but cant just throw them in the skips because of these new waste disposal laws.

 

I was just wondering whats storage like for other people on these forums? Just want to get a general idea.

If we don't bolt stuff down the kids nick it. Handy when we need to dispose of stuff.

We dont tend to keep a lot of stuff, we try and get rid to local primaries, students etc

 

When we do have CRT's to store I just tend to hide them in different areas

I put a lot in the sixth form computer room since no teacher moans about there because its such a mess already, and hopefully some will get nicked

 

Also I put some in other suites that still have CRT's under the context of 'spares'

My office is a small room tucked away behind the school library, its no where near big enough.

 

Our office fits that description exactly!

 

Maybe we are both working in the same office, but dont know about it because we cant see eachother due to the massive piles of old computer equipment. lol

My office was once a store room... It is 8 ft long and 4 ft wide. That is all the storage space I have.

 

If I try and store things elsewhere I get told off as it makes those areas 'messy' and if I store anything in my office I get told it is a mess. It is a lose-lose situation.

We got rid of about a dozen CRTs at the local tip - they have a special collection point - last Summer. However it had to be done 2 at a time. Basically if anyone was going there with their garden waste from home, they took a couple with them. Not practical for larger schools, I think. We've got another 8 to go once the gardening season restarts!

The WEEE regulations kick in on 1st July making it a lot easier for you to get rid of this stuff once its no longer required. Basically, it will be our (and other resellers, distributors etc) responsibility to dispose of these sort of items for you. Basically, whoever you buy the monitors, PCs etc from have to dispose of them for you if you want them to. Alternatively, there will be WEEE sections at a lot of tips around the country.

Don't know how we got away with this but we skipped about 50 CRT monitors, 10 old printers, and god knows how many old PC's in August. Although the regulations are there, it doesn't seem anyone's actually checking what's in skips and upholding them. I'd put them in your bins one or two at a time and if you get caught, pleed ignorance!
