kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I have removed a DC from our domain and now my exchange 2007 just stays at applying computer configuration upoon reboot before I rebooted my DB files. like community and pupils and staff
sukh Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 1. Check your DNS settings on the Exch server 2. As mentioned above, what this the only DC/GC in your foresr/domain? 3. Have you used static enteries for exchange to use for GC querirs, if yesy, then change this
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 no i have 2 GC servers the server has loaded after some time i have logged in but now is takeing for ever to load the profile and the profile isnt that big either. dns settings on the server are ok as i changed them before the problem when you say static enteries for exchange you mean dns ?
pantscat Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 In Exchange you can either let it automatically choose which DCs to use to talk to or you can manually specify use this DC (handy in split sites with slow links and such). Have a look in Exchange System Manager and double-check that it's not looking for your demoted DC. Oh hang on - did you run dcpromo to demote your old DC?
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 yea i ran dcpromo where in exchange can i specify to use this dc
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 i know that sounded strange but i was never included in the build of exchange
sukh Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 1. I was referring to dsaccess. Run EMS and run get-exchangeserver yourexchangeservername | fl > c:\exch.txt Look for enteries begining with staticdomaincontroller etc... there should be about 3 or 4 2. What are the DNS enetires on your NIC, which one is preferred?
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 StaticDomainControllers : {} StaticGlobalCatalogs : {} StaticConfigDomainController : StaticExcludedDomainControllers : {} CurrentDomainControllers : {} CurrentGlobalCatalogs : {} CurrentConfigDomainController : hummm i guess thats not right
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 some services wont start either my imap and my IS store
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 my dns is 10.25.8.7 which is first dc
sukh Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 1. The DC/GC you decomm'ed, did this hold any of the FSMO roles? Check where the FSMO roles are now and status.
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 all the fmso roles was transferd over to dc1 a few weeks ago all 5 of them
sukh Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Run the ExBPA from the toolbox and post/pm the results.
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 N:\>netdom query fsmo Schema master DC1.westpark.local Domain naming master DC1.westpark.local PDC DC1.westpark.local RID pool manager DC1.westpark.local Infrastructure master DC1.westpark.local The command completed successfully.
kevin_lane Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 well the server i removed which was the last 2003 dc / gc for some reason and i just check it im a book i have and but when i was using the expba after reading lots of jargon it said that basiclly that exchange 2007 can not read at a 2008 domain level. so i doubled check to make sure that i didnt change the level to 2008 which thankfully i didnt other wise i would of been stuffed so i booted up the 2k3 server still had the computer account in ad which was good as i didnt delete that ran dcpromo added it back to the domain turned it in a gc exchange needs this and then i had to make sure that the server config and org config looked at the domain again and also looked at the dc also made sure dns was ok and all kicked in....... all very weird but its working
