As Flip are currently in the process of being shutdown i'm looking at alternatives to these as i'm just getting a refund on two as they broke under warranty.

What do people recommend with regards to alternatives?

Looking at around £80 each ex vat.

They have a .mov output - I think (been a while since I used one of ours), but they definitely output in HD and VGA in the same format onto the SD card. Edited by jonnymcguigan

Has anyone used the iPod touch as a camera? It strikes me as potentially perfect for use in a school with WiFi - have the device just boot into a picture-taking app that simply takes pictures and sends them straight to a storage server via WiFi.

It's a nice idea but I think they are expensive for it

We have a local project involving to kits of mobile tech. These contain (amongst other thing) 6 iPod touchs and 6 Flips ... the Flip hardly get used as the iPod Touch is the first choice of the children to use, edit, email, upload and share images, audio and video.

£200? I don't know if Apple do discounts for bulk or anything - is there a cheaper Android equivilent, i.e. an Android phone but without the phone part?

Apple themselves don't do educational discounts for iPod's. A reseller might though.

Samsung Galaxy Player 50. 8GB model is £137.66 and 16GB model is £169.90.

Looking at video for a primary school myself, the ZX3 looks good but it uses a cable to transfer the video (they keep loosing cables here!) any other alternative that docks like the Flip with a USB connection on the camera itself. Searched but cant seem to find any.

I'm going to jump in on this topic because we currently use Flip Cams in school and we're looking to get something better in- preferably something a little more rugged but no more than £80 - £100 each and also something that doesn't require video conversion to use in Movie Maker. x Any ideas?
