Where is N: defined in CC3

I have created a folder in the RM Management console, and ticked "block inheritence" - so it doen't get any packages from its parent. I then assigned the packages I wanted and everything worked fine except, in My Computer, the N: shows up as a 'Disconected network drive' - you can't delete it or re-attach it. Where is the N: assigned in CC3?

It'll be assigned to the machine - Mapped Network Drive ? Maybe try re-mapping it.

Thats the problem - can't find where its mapped at all....

Does it tell you in the properties of the drive - I have mapped drives and can see where it goes by right clicking and looking in properties... if you try to re-map it and it says no network connection can be found I'd say it is a dead map. Edited May 20, 2011 by cpjitservices

Hi, I think we are at crossed purposes here..... I know what folder the N: needs to be mapped to, but I can't find where in the RM management console (or indeed group policy) where the assignment is set.... - does that make better sense?

ahh I see - been a while since I did it in RMMC - In GPO Editor it's in User Configuration > User Settings > Drive Maps - then right click and click new drive map

We have them defined under user types in configuration settings.

Home drives are configured in Active Directory (edit the properties of a user, click Profile, and it's at the bottom) - that's how the N: drive is mapped.

In RMMC: Configuration Settings > User Types > Pick required UserType > General section > Expand 'Specify where personal data should be stored' - this deals with the folder redirection within N:\

 

The actual full UNC path is defined by the folder structure under Users... ie:

Expand Users > Expand Server > Expand Students > Pick a folder (OU), right click, properties. Base path for users is shown under 'Location:', username is appended per user.

 

However, the mapping itself is defined within Active Directory as the user is created, via a script within RMMC.

 

Head onto one of your Domain Controllers that hosts users, open 'Active Directory Users and Computers', browse thru the OUs to a student account.

Right click on the account > properties > Profile tab.

 

Profile path is specified in the 'Profile Path:' field at the top in the format

\\SERVER\RMSTUDENTPROFILES\YEAR\USERNAME

 

Mapping of UNC to N:\ is specified under 'Home folder' at the bottom...

'Connect' set to N:

'To' set to UNC of the users' share in the format \\SERVER\USERNAME$
