Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good free alternative to Microsoft Access?

That won't ruin any of the settings currently installed with Microsoft Office 2010 will it?

 

I only need the database software, nothing else.

They look good, but don't I have to set up an SQL instance to run a database through that?

 

I was hoping for a simple free database application that would basically access a single file when required, much like Access.

I recently upgraded from Microsoft Office 2003 (where I had Access) to Microsoft Office 2010 (where I don't have Access).

 

I was just looking for a free basic replacement.

 

I think I'll try OpenOffice to see if I can install just the database portion without interfering with any Office 2010 settings.

Ok, I downloaded and installed OpenOffice Base. I removed all the other sections and options and it doesn't seem to have impacted on my other office applications.

Ok, removed OpenOffice Base and installed Access 2003. Removed all other options except for Visual Basic which it wouldn't let me remove with Access.

Thought so - I'm Office 2010 on my machine, but I still use Visio 2003 and it works fine. Think the problem only exists when you install for instance Word 2010 alongside Word 2003.
