Install Problems

Hi i have been trying to reinstall windows 7 on a laptop that had completly crashed the process seems to be going fine up until the last stages where a error appears and the process ends. I have tried installing a version of XP which install and runs fine.

 

The laptop is designed for windows 7 and had ran windows 7 fine up until it crashed.

 

Could it be a hard drive problem? are there any programs you would recomend to check the hard drive for errors.

ram? Do you mean getting more RAM?

Not in the sense of adding more RAM try replacing it and see how that works, could be a bad sector in the memory with the xp install going threw the hard drive sounds ok, did you do a full format?

Yeah did a full format, XP install goes in fine. Just has problem with windows 7 gets so far then says install files are missing have tried two separate install discs so know its not a problem with the discs.

Download the hard drive diagnostic from the maker of the drive and run a test.

Download memtest to check your memory. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

You could also try running Seatools or similar on the hard disks to check they're OK.

We have had this issue many times when trying to install Win7 from a dvd and always ended with installing it from an USB-stick (which is also much as from dvd).

You can use a tool from MS to make a bootable Win7 stick, get it here: http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe

Have tried this get further than install with disc but when it comes to completing instalation it says that windows cannot configure with the computers hardware. Even though it has worked fine previously!!!

 

Any ideas?

Have you tried checking the BIOS to see which SATA mode you are using?
