Windows 7 Profiles - Copy To... Grayed out

Hi,

 

I am trying to create a Mandatory profile in Windows 7. I have made the profile up using a user account called profile. I have rebooted the computer many times but the copy to button is grayed out.

 

I have attached a screenshot.

 

Does anyone know why please?

I did this not so long ago,

 

if the copy button is greyed out download windows enabler Download Windows Enabler 1.1 - The program allows the user to enable disabled windows and controls such as buttons and tick boxes -

 

MAke sure you copy with everyone full access permisions, else it fails

If you have a computer running Vista, you could use this to create a "type 2" profile for Windows 7. However, you may want to read the link below first.

 

Does anyone know why please?

Microsoft no longer support this method of copying profiles because it causes issues.

the official way of doing it now involves sysprepping the pc ajnd when i tried it it then refused to go back into windows

i honestly cant remember i know i edited the sysprep file but thats all i remember

What you have to use Sysprep? Thats ridiculous!

 

Will try Windows Enabler tomorrow.

I've used the Windows Enabler at a local community radio station and it seems to have worked for them touch wood! However I did warn them (and there IT guy who volunteers there who wanted the Mandatory Profiles) that it wasn't the MS way any more so if its a bit weird then to go to roaming for now, touch wood they haven't had any issues yet! But they don't use the range of Apps that we do really.

We use mandatory network profile, all we did to seup was login as a user with a romaing profile path, set it up how we wanted and then change the permissions to everyone and rename ntuser.dat to ntuser.man then put the .v2 in the same location as the existing student mandatory profile. Didn't need to use the copy feature.

 

Minor advice with 7, always delete profiles from the applet rather than deleting the folder from Users as it keeps the registry and stops it downloading/creating profile in future.

We are trying to set up mandatory profiles after so many issues with corrupt profiles on laptops.

 

I logged in as a test student. Logged out. Changed to ntuser.man. Shared it out as man$. Gave everyone full control on the share permission and even tried full control on file permission. Hooked up another student to it and it fails to load the profile.

 

Any ideas? We've got it set so that a user cannot log on without a successful profile load.

You also need to do registry permissions as well

What do they need extra permissions on in the registry?

 

I assume the best way is to apply the registry changes is via GP?
