Ubuntu integration

Its likely that this has been asked before but i couldnt find anything, and im not sure which forum to put this tread in.

 

Anyway, to what extent can you integrate an ubuntu workstation into a windows environment (2008 DCs)?.

I managed to get it to a state where it would "log in" using their AD credentials. Dont expect GPOs to work.

Yes you can certainly get to this stage but as mentioned things like GPO's and Mapped Drives (type thing) are not as easy to acheive

 

How far do you actually want to get?

You can do lots of it manually too but Likewise put a GUI round it and support GPO-ish features if you pick the paid version.

Thanks for the replies, I had in the past got as far as getting it to authenticate against ad but i did wonder how policies would be deployed.

I believe I heard of a company that created modules that translates some windows group policies into Linux permissions and settings. Or so they claimed - I never tried them, wasn't willing to pay!! I'll see if I can find them and post it...

im in the process of doing this i have a mandatory profile (but its stored locally so i have to recreate/copy it) loggin in with ad username and mapping 1 shared drive (does ask for a password but leave it blank and it appears to use users credentials)

 

couldnt work out how the f to map their own user area and i dont think ad policies applying is likely so im just going to get the pc set up (both xp and linux dual boot) as i want it and ghost it out

 

i used centrify to join to ad i can post my notes if anyone wants but they are a bit of an aid to memory rather than a proper document
