Starcraft 1 is still one of my all time favorites although I know it was long after C&C or even Warcraft 1 first came out. Played all those but still prefer the original Starcraft.

 

Quest for Glory series was one of my all time series games.

 

I have 2 favorite racing games. Hi-Octane and then the later Wipeout. Both absolutely awesome racers and top notch for their time!

 

FPS's. I played Wolfenstien 3d. That was pretty good at the time. But Doom1/2 was much better as you could play mutliplayer, plus it had the "creepy" factor.

 

An old DOS game that I used to like was Jones in the fast lane.

 

And of course for the adventure/puzzle game nothing beats Monkey Island.

For all of you who love old games - gog.com are having a massive sale right now, with most games at $3-5, including a massive chunk of Bullfrog games for $12 and Duke Nukem 3D for free. All of them are tweaked to run on modern OSes with no faff, no DRM, and lots of extras.
