xbox slim dvd drive

My son's xbox dvd drive has packed up and I need a replacement. I have noticed that they are flashed with a key though which needs to be extraceted from the old drive. Does anyone know how this is done and where I can get a replacement from - I can't seem to find any!

They're not even a year old yet so get it done on warranty

then in that case you cant be helped as the key is unique to each drive and xbox, and cant be duplicated (same reason why most new slims cant be jtagged)

You can always buy another drive from Team Xecuter or the like, but as Nephilim says, there is a unique key which means the new drive will only work if you hack the xbox rendering it useless for xbox live.

Is the DVD drive completely dead or does is just not read discs? If you have a LiteOn drive (and it still powers on), you might be able to use DVDKey32 with a suitable adapter to extract the key from the old drive.
