dsm Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Hi everyone, I've just noticed this page Student PCs on Canterbury campus - Information ServicesComputing & IT Services - University of Kent and I would like to see if something similar is possible where I work. Anyone have any idea how I might be able to re-create this? Regards
bodminman Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Funny enough this is something I am wanting to acheive for September 2011 but haven't had a good look at it yet.
Steve21 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 That looks interesting. I wonder how they do that! Guessing it's done on the same line as "LimitLogins". If you record everytime a computer is logged on, and off (like for purposes of limiting logins) it's just a quick scan of the database/files. Only issue would be defining what computers are in what rooms, and on what floor in the first place. And a hassle if you add more Steve
plexer Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 There is another recent thread on this along with a solution.
kearton Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 There is another recent thread on this along with a solution. Could someone post a link please? I've had a hunt and can't find it. Thanks
bodminman Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 There maybe relevant info here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/1234-how-find-out-machine-student-logged-onto-when.html
mthomas08 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 We recently purchased frog with Secure Gateway for external access, my guess is they have setup their system with the KCC VPN? We had several staff here at times who were from KCC and had laptops setup to VPN on to their system, so they must have some thing similar to what we admins can use and Secure gateway? We are aiming to have this online in september but does mean PCs have to be left turned on, we have a minor glitch at the moment where more then 1 person can not use remote desktop on to a PC and the logon bar is half missing.
2097 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 If you have a AD structure . Say Each room has there OWN OU It would be quite easy to do this . I would probally recomend writing a PHP script to use the already created Login Tracker script. The login Tracker script already shows you how many people are logged on in each room ( OU )
