Outlook Anywhere Question

Is it possible to set up Outlook anywhere on machines that are not part of a domain and are used remotely and never connected to the corporate network at all?

 

I have Outlook anywhere set up on machines on the domain and autodiscover settings fill in the msstd: bit and the proxy bit with the correct owa address and all works. When i try manually setting these things up on a non work computer used remotely it does not work.

 

Any suggestions?

Nobody ever set up Outlook anywhere on a home machine before without first taking it in work first?

I have a exchange 2010 installation at home and have recently setup the following above so i can access it from my works machine.

 

When Adding the exchange account remember to do the following

1) The Server should be the Internal FQDN for the exchange server

2) enter the full mailbox address User@domain.com into the username box

3) Do not press check name first of all click more settings > connections > Exchange proxy settings

4) enter the https:// of the external exchange proxy

5) set the authentication option to match what you have setup in EMC

One of the things that drove me mad is the SSL certificate you use to encrypt the connection must be fully trusted on the client computer.

Yes you can. Outlook will first try to connect using the SCP method and will realise it's not connected to the domain and then will use the predefined autodiscover URLs. Failing this, it will then try to connect using the A record, if this fails it will use the SRV method.

 

Make sure your records are setup properly externally if you are using them and also make sure your certificates are setup.

 

If all fails, run the analyser mentioned by simad00 and post/PM results.

Make sure that you have port 443 open for external access, and also that you have an appropriate certificate which has autodiscover.domain.com, netbiosname.domain.com and externaldomain.domain.com.

Set up now. Had to grab 2 certificates and install them on the remote machine before i could get it working. Assumed it was just the one but in the certificate details there was another cert further up the chain i needed to import also.
