Certificate errors on server

Hi all

 

Bit of background on this - i wanted to have access to spiceworks helpdesk at home for staff. Enabled all the https settings and then got my LEA to add a new IP and a dns redirect on helpdesk.schoolname.co.uk (subdomain in our schoolname.sch.uk) to the spiceworks server.

 

On the server i setup the default website on IIS for SSL connection to spiceworks and all works fine. Problem is i get the certificate error from outside the network and would rather everyone didnt have to click on continue every time.

 

So i got my free CA certificate from SSL Certificates SSL Wildcard SSL Free Certificates SSL Server Certificate 256 bits for helpdesk.schoolname.sch.uk installed it on the server without issue. I then followed the SW guide to allocating the certificate to SW's (Assign Your Existing Public SSL Certificate To Spiceworks - Spiceworks Community) but still getting same certificate error.

 

If i check the certificate details it gives me following:

 

helpdesk.schoolname.sch.uk

 

ipsCA Level 1 CA

 

Valid from 05/04/2011 - 12/04/2013

 

Im worried i should have put it as https://helpdesk.schoolname.sch.uk ?

 

I have also noticed since i imported the certificate onto the server the default website is now stopped? Not sure if related or whether that happens when certificate is installed on server.

 

Any ideas?

when you view the certificate in IE on a client machine, does it display the correct one, the one made from the site?

Hi, yes it does but it says "this certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority"

 

Is the free ipsCA certificate not up to it then? *shock horror!* cant get anything for free these days

Thats what it looks like. Other web browsers might not have a problem with it.

Have you installed the ipsca root certificate on the server? You might also need this installing on client.

Yeah its installed on server - server is fine tested and all ok on different browsers. Seems the clients cannot see the certificate, trying to install it locally on some clients to see if it cures the problem for them

I use one of these certificates and it works fine with IE. There are two things you need to install on the server, as per the instructions. Did you install both?
