Hi

We are running a RM CC4 network and are in the process of moving to Windows 7, I have done some extensive software testing and most pieces worked with a few exceptions.

One piece which I knew worked was ProDesktop, however while building a group of machines the installation of it failed on probably half the PC's, and it seems random which PC's it failed on. I have found on some PC's you can assign it manually in the console and it installs OK, on other it failes with an error occured in the installation.

In the Event viewer I recorded these errors:

Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: \\LFC-IC1-06\RepoMan1$\52c9aae463524fcdb430ad005e9c38ea\PTC ProDESKTOP 8.0 (CC4).msi. Client Process Id: 3700.

Product: PTC ProDESKTOP 8.0 -- Installation operation failed.

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: PTC ProDESKTOP 8.0. Product Version: 8.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: PTC. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Ending a Windows Installer transaction: \\LFC-IC1-06\RepoMan1$\52c9aae463524fcdb430ad005e9c38ea\PTC ProDESKTOP 8.0 (CC4).msi. Client Process Id: 3700.

Iv done windows searches and it says its a permissions issue but if thats the case why does it work on some machines and not on others when they are all the same make and model machine, built in the exact same way.

anyone any idea's?

We gave up with pro desktop a while ago and moved to google sketchup

The only reason most people ever used prodesktop was that it was cheap, but it has so many issues with installation and compatibility its not worth it any more.

Now Sketchup has surpassed it in many ways and is free.
