Evening All,

 

Something I have been waiting to be released for some months now, So I've just done a small overview of Windows InTune, A Basic Walk Through some things etc. :-)

Until I see some sensible education pricing, it's not even worth looking at as far as I'm concerned.

 

The list pricing works out at nearly £90/year per computer. I have 140 workstations, which pegs it at more than £12,000/year. My current annual spend on Schools Agreement and AV is just over £5,000, which gives me a lot more than InTune and leaves me a cool £8000 a year to buy the server hardware to run it on.

I seem to have missed out on hearing about this before now - any chance you could quickly summarise what it is, exactly, that Windows InTune does? Am I correct in thinking it's some kind of workstation management system?

I agree with you 100% in what you have said in that sense i DO NOT think it is suitable for Education at the moment at the kind of cost because it just works out too expensive.

 

In my eyes it is more for SMB's where companys charge them 15k+ for an SBS Installation, where as with this kind of solution they could pretty much just use Windows InTune mixed with Office 365 and have a much cheaper solution. (I am referring to people whom have like 10 desktops for example)

 

It annoyed me seeing companys selling a Small Business Server solution to companys which have 2 members of staff and that is it! just a complete waste of there money when they can do the same kind of thing with these kind of services.

It is basically a Cloud Management System for Workstations. I vision it at the moment as not being an option for Edu but more of an option for SMB's.

 

Most SMB's don't have many systems on their network, or/ don't really have any management in place for there systems. Some of which have people whom work out of the office allot and therefore it helps keep there systems up to date. Provide IT Admins with Remote Support when they are out of the office. Reporting is similar to having a Small Business Server so gives you your work station information etc.

 

and the on UP for me is that you get upgrade rights to Windows 7 Ultimate when you purchase this for a workstation so you are able to make use of Bit Locker etc. So Good for Small Companies to start using Encryption etc.

Just add a few points further.

 

1. It also provide endpoint protection, i.e AV based of MSFT Forefront.

2. Give you upgrades rights to future Window OS. (Windows 8 is on the way).

3. Benefit is that, all runs on MSFT infrastructure, so if there's outgages you're backed by a FINANACIAL SLA.

4. Fees are set by MSFT so they are set, no reseller can "Do a better quote"

5. You can trial this https://mocp.microsoftonline.com/Site/services/intune/Signup.aspx?offer=winintune for free for up to 30 days on a max of 25 PC's. (Obviusly the upgrade licenses is not part of the trial@:-)

6. Cant manage servers, just PC's

7. Manage policies centrally for firewalls/malware etc..

8. Some alerting which is fairly basic for threats, updates etc..

9. Doesn't reply on AD, PC's can be SOHO.

10. Some repoting on application installed, what you have purchased from MSFT and what you actually have deployed.

11. Secure comms (HTTPS).

 

If you have SA then you'lle get a discount from the normal price.

You do get a better price if you are on a SA Agreement. I don't know what the cost's are though.

I see that Intune v2 is about to come out but I haven't seen any pricing. Did anyone here make the leap and try this out?

I have just brought this for the 9 primary schools that i manage and it worked out at 1.50 per month per user.

 

So it was about 22.50 per month for each school. i have installed now and working great. i have to say its amazing tool to have.

Isn't this just Meraki Systems Manager (Which is free) with AV?
