LosOjos Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) I thought some of you might be interested in this, been playing with a live USB version on my eeepc the past couple of days, and it certainly appears to work well! The default resolution is naff for the eepc screen, but booting it in to VESA mode is much better. Theblacksheep Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) The VMs work nice. Installs in about 3 mins. Only 2.2 when I put it on an minibook a couple o weeks back. Seemed to detect all the hardware too, camera was laggy tho, not exactly the biggest deal breaker. Edited March 24, 2011 by Theblacksheep

LosOjos Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 I have an eeepc at home I do nothing with, so I think I'm going to take the plunge and install this as main OS to have a play with - if all of the usual apps work (no reason they shouldn't, they're Java based and I wouldn't have thought there's anything specific to ARM CPU's for the vast majority of apps) then I think this could be perfect for the casual netbook user like myself, install a nice web browser, flash support, lots of games and info apps... yep, I think this could be great!

There's no port of Honeycomb on the website yet I've noticed, but I reckon that might be better suited to netbooks, it's designed for larger screens and as many tablets have HDMI out, I imagine support for that would be built in to the OS (all assumptions of course, I've not actually used a Honeycomb device to compare) I wish the site went in to some detail on how they port it for x86 processors, I might have a crack at compiling Honeycomb if they did... some scouring of the interwebs may be in order this weekend methinks.
LosOjos Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 Hmmm apparently most apps are compiled with native code for ARM processors, and so they won't work on x86 strains of Android... shame. Still, worth a play to see if it's a feasible OS

I have this on my Q1, but the touchscreen doesnt work, however all other aspects do. Coding is not my strong point. Currently trying it on a NB30 but only got it running so far by selecting Vesa and its very slow and unresponsive. Using VirtualBox to test it.
