The SIMS Spring release is out and available on SOLUS 2, so thought i'd start the customary thread to discuss any issues.

One thing to point out, the CD iso download links are published as part of the notice on SupportNet and password protected. It's not supposed to be public domain, so you'll have to go there or request from support if you need it.

Not attempted it yet, am awaiting the usual "Argh it broke my.............and now everyone is shouting at me" messages.

Can probably afford some downtime on Friday or one evening next week. Then it is time to upgrade to SQL2K8R2 on a 64bit platform for us.

I have to wait until Capita upgrade Hosted SLG but as it's report wrinting time and Easter is a week and a half away I think this will be an "Over the holidays" job. It willl also give me a change to get the new version of SOLUS 3 installed and see what happens.

Plus I can let all the eager beevers find the problems and give Capita time to patch them :)

This. I'd get stabbed if I tried to upgrade SIMS at the moment.

Sorry Guys,

Just for once we are not going to bother updating until Easter (just over two weeks) and then we can install Discover shortly after (hopefully also during Easter!)

Normally I want the release asap! :D

Hasn't been release to us from our LA yet so couldn't even if I wanted to :(.

Aren't you allowed on SupportNet - you can get the downloadables. It's taken me all day to download, only to find, i actually want the installables, which is a different download. ARGH.

hope to test tomorrow.

I was told they would resolve some of the server memeory leak errors in this release

Anyone got the release notes?

It's available on SupportNet do you have access?

There's no point reproducing here, it's available in word or pdf format, and there are also notes for all other modules , fms, solus 3-3, slg, ampark etc.

I can email it to you if you don't have access.

I think the LA like to do various tests before rolling it out to schools so I'm happy to wait for them. Plus like mentioned I usually wait for the 'It broke my...' before upgrading.

There is a problem updating the Test Data so it's not been an easy day. I wiped mine and started from scratch, which obviously doesn't help with running through any upgrade problems. But I had a server to rebuild and I'm out tomorrow.

I too am awaiting the nod from the LA but may wait until April when I can download Discover and test.

Anyone got any updated specs for client workstations running Discover? :D

I've just had the most perfect sims installation experience.

Brand new virtual Windows 2008 R2 box, SQL 2008 R2, clean installable of SIMS, restore of last nights backup, and all works perfectly, barring getting logins to work but i'll write about that elsewhere in the dbattach backups thread.

Upgrade to Spring 11 by CD, not a problem in sight.

Just need to put Office 2010 and see if i can edit reports templates and other tasks with not errors. It's all gravy so far :)

If anyone has any functionality they would like me to test, let me know, as i need to put it through it's paces before i make it live at Easter.

Plan for tomorrow is to install FMS - that wont be a easy i have a feeling.

Is it all working nicely with Office 2010 now?

Its been working ok with office 2010 before the upgrade - although I still need to find a way to disable office asking if you want to enable content all the time as you have to click enable content before it allows the macros etc to run.

Like VikPaw, I have just done a clean install from the Spring 2010 Install ISO, then the Spring 2011 Upgrade ISO. This, too, is on a new VM with Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. Absolutely flawless. :)

SOLUS3 was a nightmare for us though! It took 3 days and numerous calls to Capita Helpdesk to get it sorted - and we had to revert to SOLUS2.

The silly thing is that we trialled SOLUS3 and it seemed ok then! Never mind - at least Capita have the case details to get it improved for next time!

Upgraded ours over easter and seems to be running fine so far.

We used Solus 2 for the main upgrade and all workstations auto updated this morning with only a few probs.

Shameless Double Post from SupportNet but it's quite useful i think so worth mentioning in case no one noticed yet:

Just thought i'd point out as i've not seen it mentioned elsewhere, but as with the regular student browse, you can use wildcards in the quick search.

It's proved really popular here, especially because it's faster than lightning, and so more people are using it, and so have discovered for example that if you search for a name that contains a space, the search will fail, as it treats the words separately.

This wasn't an issue with regular student browse as it only looked in the one field either surname / forename so could take a space.

However the regular SQL wildcards will work so you can use a ? for a single missing character or an * for any number of missing characters. :o)

e.g.

regular search for "al saud" - works fine.

quick search "al saud" - fails.

quick search "al?saud" - works.

quick search "alj???i" - gives me aljabri

quick search "alj?????i" - gives me aljuffali

quick search "alj*i" - gives me aljabri, aljuffali, and aljaouni

:o) It's useful for me anyway.
