An email was sent out to All Staff on 11th March, and there is one member of staff that is having problem opening the message. Whenever she tries to open it, she gets signed out of her email. This is also the case when she tries to delete the email.

Is there any way that the email can be deleted from the Exchange Server from just her mailbox?

What version exchange ? I have used exchange powershell on Exch 2007 to remove a specific email from ALL mailbox's so I assume you can remove the email from 1 mailbox using a similar method.

Hi

For Exchange 2000/2003 use Exmerge, for Exchange 2007/2010 use PS commands Get-Mailbox and Export-Mailbox.

Will Exmerge allow me to delete this one email from the one affected mailbox? This was an important email sent to all staff, and I don't want it removing from everyone's mailbox.

Can you get to it using Outlook web access? Might be simpler. Failing that, have you tried setting her up a profile on a different computer?

Thanks Sukh...I am not in this school again until Thursday, but I will give it a go then. Is it a straightforward process?

They all use OWA, none of the computers have Outlook configured for their mailboxes.

So does she get signed out or does IE crash? Have you tried a different browser?

This rings a bell... We used to be on Exchange 2003 but have used 2007 for a few years now... If my memory is correct, I think we got around it by selecting the offending message and another in OWA and deleting both, I can't recall if was any other message or one above/below or both! Never had this issue in 2007 though only 2003....

Hi All,

I managed to get rid of this email from the mailbox last night...

It was the first time I had seen what was happening, when we tried to open the email a new window popped up asking us sign in, closing the window took you back to the previous window and the email still showed as unread. When we tried to move/copy/delete the email, exactly the same thing happened.

So when we tried to open the email again, the teacher entered her log in details when prompted - this opened the email fine, and showed it as read. When we tried to delete it we had to log in again, this sent it to the Deleted Items. And to remove it from the delete items, we again had to enter the log in details.

Thank you all for your help :-)
