Fraser-09 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) Hi, I've accidentally right clicked and deleted the Default Domain Group policy on one of my 2008 servers. Doh! I could recreate and reconfigure I suppose, but obviously I'd prefer to recover it, if possible. Unfortunally this server has no backup in place (I was going to configure backups today believe it or not!) Does anyone know a way to recover it? Thank you in advanced Fraser Edited March 18, 2011 by Fraser-09
sukh Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi GPO's are stored in Sysvol, if this isn't being backed up then you wont be able to restore. You may be able to recover the GPO file if you use a 3rd party utility to recover the deleted files. There are some free tools which may do this and some other which you have to pay for. Sukh 1
Fraser-09 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Once/If I can recover the files, how would I import them into GPO ? Thanks
sukh Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi Once you have recovered the files you can then import. See Import Settings from a Group Policy Object Sukh 1
Fraser-09 Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 Hi, Thank you for your replies. It turns out it wasn't deleted as such. It was just the link that was removed. The policy was still under Group Policy Objects so just recreated the link, ran gpupdate /force and bob's your uncle. Next time i'll try more sleep before playing about with GPO Fraser
sukh Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Hi Don't forget to backup your GPO's and server. Sukh
