Windows Activation Denied Access (KMS, As Admin, and Elevated)

Recently a few of our computers have been popping up as not genuine, as they appear to be losing their KMS master keys.

 

We've been fixing this just by using slmgr and re-IPKing and ATOing the machines and this has worked wonders.

 

However recently we've had a computer that refuses permission to the script, even when logged on as admin, and elevating the cmd.exe

 

As shown below:

 

 

 

Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Never had this issue before, and a full admin/elevated account it still denies permission.

Anyway, not sure why its throwing a permission denied error - is the KMS Server ok and running?

Aye it's default Win7 Pro KMS key. And the KMS server is running fine, No issues anywhere with reactivating apart from this machine, that just refuses to run the script, as admin and elevated.

Error code 0x80070005

Symptom

When you try to use a KMS host, a KMS client, or a MAK to activate one or more computers, you may receive the following error message:

0x80070005

Access denied the requested action requires elevated privileges.

Cause

This issue occurs if User Access Control (UAC) does not let the activation processes run in a non-elevated command prompt.

Workaround

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

 

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as.

2. Click The following user, and then select Administrator in the User name list.

3. Click OK.

4. At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

slmgr.vbs

edit: looks like youve already done that.. hmm.. What in the eventlog on the client, and on the KMS server?

There's no log at all on the client for KMS errors, which makes me think it's not even running, just getting denied permission by Windows.

 

There is an activation error "only" when a user logs onto the computer:

 

Installation of the Proof of Purchase failed. 0x80070005

Partial Pkey=GPDD4

ACID=?

Detailed Error[?]

 

Even running slui.exe returns Access Denied error.

Ah - fair enough - its been a while since I configured KMS...

 

Is your KMS Server reporting any activation requests? Is it activated? registered in DNS? Any event logs (IIRC KMS has its own event log..)

 

I found that on some PCs I had to add in the IP address of the KMS server before I could activate them..

If its just one machine, and the rest of your network are KMS activating no problem, I personally wouldnt waste my time on it. I would either use a MAK key, or just reimage it.

 

Not a solution to the problem, but a way round it.

Just a simple check - is the user account you are logging into the PC a local admin on the machine?

Aye, Was a bit worried that if it started doing this on one machine, others might follow after. But gave it a reimage and all seems to be happy now. Hurrah
