I for one am looking forward to seeing how they've ironed out the millions of bugs from the beta... and seeing "A more beautiful web" with HTML5 A More Beautiful Web Launches on March 14th

paul_1989 Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 I had a go but after a while it started doing some weird things, like when you click on a link and it opens in a new tab it would just reload the page the link was on in the new tab as opposed to actually following it.

Yeah, got it on a computer here for testing and so far looking like a good solid improvement over IE8. Seems faster and I like how you can how 'pin' websites directly to the Window7 start menu and add context options to them. I like how they've simplified the display, removed the status bar and freed up a lot of room at the top of the browser by getting rid of the seperate toolbars for search and URL. Hopefully IE9 will finally put an end to all these horrible 3rd part toolbars companies kept on adding. I've literally seen some users at home with half their screen in IE taken up with 3rd party toolbars! Not sure about losing the favourites bar by default though as I found it really useful for quickly opening groups of websites. You can re-enable it but somehow it now looks 'bolted-on' as it doesn't have the nice transparency effect like the rest of the Titlebar UI.

For some curious reason, the full installer for Windows 7 x86 (17.2MB) decided to hit the web and download a 16.9MB .msu file from here. Not really sure why. Going to try a machine with no Internet connection to see if it still installs. UPDATE: worked just fine without an Internet connection, so why it insisted on downloading the installer again when it was able to, I don't know. Edited March 15, 2011 by AngryTechnician

I hate the icon as well, I know its petty but it looks faded and IE5ish. Anyone know if it is on WSUS yet?

Following links in e-mails seems to just open a new blank tab rather than following the link :/ On the up side, when you pin a site to the taskbar and then open it from there the back/forward buttons get their own custom colour... That makes up for it I guess ¬¬ Has anyone checked out the amazing sites section on the beautyoftheweb.com site? Some of those sites are pretty amazing
OverWorked Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Is there any news on when it will be released via WSUS? I need to deploy it urgently, as our Fronter VLE will not work on IE8 on Windows 7, but will on IE9. If it's not on WSUS, is there any other way deploying it? Thanks.
cromertech Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 It is on WSUS I've deployed it this week although it's been there since official release i think. If you dont see it just right click your WSUS server in mmc and click import updates and get it from there
OverWorked Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Thanks. I've tried the import updates facility to download IE9 from the catalog. My WSUS server won't download from the MS Update Catalog site - they all fail. After half an hour of googling I've not found a solution. I can download the files for manual installation from the catalog, but I don't think it's possible to import those files into WSUS. I was just hoping it would be on WSUS soon without having to import from the catalog.

OverWorked Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Thanks for that. I tried the SCUP, and built an update. I couldn't upload the update I'd created to WSUS. A can't spend any more time on this - I'll just wait for MS to release it properly through WSUS.
