Smoothwall users - egress filtering

Hi folks, time for my bi-annual post.. (lost my login...long story )

 

To any smw users out there... I am looking for some feedback on our egress filtering/monitoring feature.

 

Would love to know how it's working 'in the field' ...Using it? Reporting on it? Catching lots of students who should have known better?

No just me - used to be based in Leeds office but I've been working remotely from Nepal since June. Amazing what you can do with the internet these days..not exactly broadband out here though!

Hey Sue great to see you on here again I miss chatting to you about case studies and nice marketing things for Smoothwall Hope life is good in Nepal

 

Monitoring / Reporting etc... When I get time its great, but I need more time to spend learning what the reports do, when you know what they do they are great, but time is never on my side However I do run top 50 domains often and that is useful to spot new up and coming random domains that look weird to manually check them out and block them if there a pain

Hi John, longtime no speak, good to hear from you. Life is great here but I do miss everyone.

 

Am particularly interested in the outbound monitoring.. esp looking at blog/facebook/ratemyteacher posts... Am hoping that little feature has caught someone somewhere saying something they shouldn't..but its a long shot since I'm guessing most schools will simply block sites of that nature. Worth an ask tho - thx for your input!

I think monitoring of what infractions are caught via running reports should be dealt with by the pastroal team in a school.

 

Not to say I think that would ever happen though.
