Core switch random reboots

Hi

 

We are experiencing problems with out main core switch(GSM7328S stack to GSM7328FS). They are running the latest firmware 8.0.3.15. The switches are connected with a 6GB copper lag to the server switch ( GSM7328s v2).

 

The switches reboot randomly and all the L3 switches reboot???

I have 4 ideas?

1. Faulty switches (Dont think so)

2. Broadcast storm

3. Spiceworks scans all devices and uses smtp Why would my 3com switches reboot without reason, I am running 3ns with no clues - Spiceworks Community

4. Problem with the servers network cards?

When did it start?

How often does it happen?

When does it happen? (under heavy load, middle of night, random or not)

What do the switch logs say? (if they clear on reboot, set up a syslog server)

Look at the per-port error counters and see if one's got a high count.

Clear the per-port error counters and then look at them in 30 mins. Which ports have errors?

 

What happens (do it at the end of the day when everyone's left) if you aggressively port scan the switch? Does it fall over?

A snmp query shouldn't make the switch fall over, unless you've let Spiceworks have modify permissions and it does something stupid that trips a reboot.

check your power connection to them there could be a power spike somewhere too, you know sometimes when the lights flicker and your computer restarts it could be the same kind of thing, and i'd to what pete says
