Information about dual citizenship allows governments to create policies regarding immigration, allows them to figure out which countries in the world should be focussed upon to prevent abuse of dual citizenship (eg. avoiding national service by scarpering to that country, avoiding jury service by claiming you'll be in that country etc...), and allows them to build a picture of the structure of UK society in general to see which areas need extra work with getting people properly integrated (eg. being able to see that a section of a city has a large number of dual citizen people, from the last 10 years, etc...). So, why not?

Problem being, those who seek power are those least suited to it, and anyone on the voting slip is pretty much going to be someone I don't want to vote for. For example, and to get back on topic: Senator/Emperor Palpatine I vote, but it's always for the lesser of 3 evils.

Not sure it would help the defecit much though. Well, if you're not happy with the governance that exists now - you have a couple of options: 1. Stand to be an MP. 2. Move. 3. Sit at home, whinge about things, and be an annoying armchair politician without actually taking part in the political system.

This is not a democracy. EDIT: Also, even if when they do appear to put in a party people voted for, what's the point? House of Lords have the final say on any decisions, and we can't vote for them.

Which by my own logic would make me best suited to it, but then as soon as I admit that and stand for it... but such logical paradoxes are why pure philosophy doesn't work by itself. I would just like the people who do stand to differentiate themselves a little bit beyond the current crop of corrupt, self-interested, career motivated politicians we have. I was having a whinge over ale the other night about how nobody goes into politics to become education secretary, they all just see it as a tick on the CV to help them on the way to party leader or chancellor. Anyway, massively off-topic; so far this thread has hit politics and religion, would anyone like to throw any other topics into the mix? Gender inequality perhaps, the price of beer, the quality of teaching in this day and age?

The law passed to share the info and the Lockheed Martin deal was 'won' with labour in power. It doesnt matter who you vote for.

That's the point I'm [tried] making: our vote is just an illusion, we have no real power to make a difference in this country. We only have the illusion that we do.

According to the information paper relating to the development of the 2011 census religion question, a key reason for including a question on religion in the 2001 census was to provide statistics on minority religions. This helped to provide benchmarks so that employers and public authorities, for example, could fulfil their duties under the Race Relations Act.

Rydra Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 If you read some of the sites of Jediism, there are a few who are now taking this fairly seriously; to now mock them by masses entering themselves as 'Jedi' would destroy those people's chances of becoming a 'recognised' religion. When you take away the Lucas interactions, and the lightsabers it's no more or less a credible religion than many others. Religion is a key part of a countries society; England (even the UK on a wider sense) is a christian country, our laws, rules and way of life all stem from this. At the same time, the UK's society is dictated by it's openness to accept other cultures and religions to work alongside it. We would be a very different country without our strong ties to the Catholic Irish, no more curries, kebabs, or chinese without the influence and acceptance of south asian culture; no carnival's as we know it without the influence of south/central america... If you have faith in something, then be proud of it and express your beliefs, and make the people who run your country aware of what you believe in; but if you have lost interest in organised faith's, then don't spoil it for those who have not. And remember, many people may not see themselves as 'christian' but I would bet many, if not most of us have been brought up as one, wheither you embrace it or not. 1
